Shorecrest dominated Northside Christian 78-52 in the 3A-9 semifinals Friday night.
The Chargers led 9-0 before the Mustangs scored their first point. Chargers teammates Brady Grimm and Kenny DeVaul had 22 of the team’s 41 first-half points. Shorecrest (17-4) and Northside (16-12) each played up-tempo, but the Chargers had far better success via a series of short passes.
Northside got within 23-15 in the second quarter before Shorecrest went on a 10-1 run. At the half, the Chargers led by 19.
Grimm led all scorers with 27 points. Three players reached double digits for Northside: Demetrius Jackson, Mike Abraham and Victor Collazo.
“They just kept playing hard,” Shorecrest coach Daryl Blume said of his team.
The Chargers play Clearwater Central Catholic in today’s final. CCC defeated Calvary Christian 70-69 when Randle Ignacio, who led his team with 25 points, hit a two-point shot with less than five seconds left.
