Region wrestling: PHU makes history

Palm Harbor U. finished runnerup to host Kissimmee Osceola 208-161.5 at the Class 3A, Region 2 wrestling tournament, its best region finish in school history.

The Hurricanes will send a school-record 10 to the state meet. Three won their classes.

Jared Prince (126) pinned his way into the final and scored a technical pin on Seminole’s Luis Rivera there to improve to 66-0 this season. Twin brother Connor Prince (132) gave up just five points in his four matches in improving to 65-0. Senior Aaron Hartman (145) either pinned or won via major decision on his way to the title.

The Hurricanes also qualified: Anthony Mina (113), Joe Capone (120), Anthony Agazarm (138), Tucker Hardwick (152), Gunner Hurst (160), Tyler Orgera (195) and Marco Prusac (220).

East Lake finished ninth with 49 points, Dylan Renaker finished runnerup at 170 and Juilian Santos runnerup at 285.
Seminole finished 12th with 37.5 points. Anthony Parisi (138) won his class, beating Ryan Strickland of Lakeland Jenkins 9-2 in the final.

Rivera was Seminole’s only qualifier.

2A-3: Dixie Hollins qualified two for state at Punta Gorda Charlotte. Andrew Matthews won the heavyweight class while Drew Harrington finished third at 106. Boca Ciega’s Clifton Thomas qualified by finishing fourth at 195.
