MELBOURNE — The Berkeley Prep boys soccer team will have to wait yet another day as it tries to claim its second state final berth in three years after rain and lightning in Melbourne forced the postponement of Wednesday's Class 2A semifinal after about 20 minutes.

The Bucs will pick up play against Orlando Bishop Moore at 5:30 p.m. today at Eastern Florida State College.

In the earlier semifinal, Miami Gulliver Prep routed Pensacola Catholic 9-1 to secure its spot in the championship match, which moves to noon Saturday.

The Berkeley Prep-Bishop Moore semifinal was evenly played, with each team taking three shots on goal before the players were evacuated from the field.

The Bucs had their best chance to score in the 18th minute, when Quinton Kauchick took a long shot from right outside the box, but the ball sailed over the crossbar.

Berkeley Prep (10-10-5) came into the state playoffs with a losing record but has won four of its last five games by one goal to make it to its third straight final four.

And though they might have their work cut out for them against Bishop Moore (26-4-1) when the game resumes, the Bucs have proved in recent weeks that they are able to pull through in crunch time.

"I think you can just tell in our postseason this year," Berkeley Prep coach Tim Cooper said before Monday's practice, "we know how to win games when it matters."
