St. Petersburg Catholic defensive back Chris White had already put pen to paper, signing his letter of intent to play at Fairmont State on Feb. 6.
But he did not get to do it front of family and friends.
So the scene was reenacted in the school's media center as White celebrated his college decision.
"It was exciting to have this day and know that I'm going to become part of the Fairmont family," White said.
This past season, White had 22 tackles and recorded three interceptions as he helped the Barons get to the playoffs as a district runnerup and advance to the Class 3A region final.
He started to pick up interest from colleges after the season and chose the Falcons over Akron and Georgia Southern.
"There were a lot of sleepless nights talking with my mom about the decsion," Whiet said. "In the end, I felt like Fairmont State was where I belonged."
White signed before visiting the school. He plans to visit in March. But he was able to get enough information about the campus after talking with Admiral Farragut running back Cortavious Givens, a close friend who also will be playing for Fairmont State.
"Cortavious and I are real close," White said. "It's good to know that I'll be going up there with him."
