Pitchers of the day
Riverview’s Chad Colding gave up two hits in four innings and didn’t allow a runner past second base. …Miguel Martinez (four strikeouts), Ryan Boyd (three strikeouts), Jeff Goodrich, P.J. Almon and Billy McKay combined to limit Freedom to one run on five hits for Plant City. Almon was particularly effective, inducing an inning-ending double play after entering with runners on the corners in the fifth and getting out of another jam with a rally-killing double play in the sixth. McKay worked a near-perfect seventh to get the save and keep his ERA at 0.00 for the season. …Blake’s Charles Moore recorded seven strikeouts in a losing effort.
Hitters of the day
Alonso’s Peyton Woble had the winning single in the seventh inning, scoring Jake Clark — who reached on a two-out infield single and advanced to second on an error, to break a 3-all tie vs. Robinson. Woble was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Jose Ciccarello had a triple, a single and a run scored for the 2-0 Ravens. …Riverview pinch hitter Chaston Gordon had a double and a walk in two plate appearances and is 4-for-4 for the tourney. …Freedom rightfielder Mason Strickland brought home the Patriots’ only run with a first-inning double and later added a hit to go 2-for-3. …Sickles junior Troy Bacon was 2-for-3 with a triple, two RBIs and a run scored. Levi Gilcrease had a double, three runs scored, two walks and two stolen bases, and Nick Dague doubled home a run, scored a run and was twice hit by a pitch for the 2-0 Gryphons.
Defensive gems of the day
Blake senior Derek Mann, ranging far to his left from centerfield, made a full-extension diving catch to rob Riverview’s Corey Whitt of an extra-base hit in the gap. …Freedom senior centerfielder Tyler Lucchese made the same play, albeit not having to track quite as far, three hours later, and Armwood centerfield Austin Hatfield followed suit in Game 3, diving to his right on a full sprint.

Dugout chatter
“We have about five or six guys that can really pitch for us. We’re doing something completely different from other teams; we’re throwing every guy an inning. …It’s fun for these guys, plus, it’s an opportunity for these guys to get seen.” — Plant City coach Mike Fryrear
