The win is Brown’s first of the season. …Bishop McLaughlin right-hander Franklin German gave up just two runs in four innings. Jake Fowler came on in relief in the sixth and struck out a batter with a runner on third to end the inning.
Hitters of the day
Thomas Sorrentino was 2-for-4 and batted in five of Central’s six runs. Matt Clark bunted in the fifth for the final RBI and scored a run. …Mitchell’s Cobi Johnson was 3-for-3 and earned a run in the fourth to put the Mustangs on the scoreboard. …Drew Stofanik hit 3-for-4, including a double, and he added an RBI and a run to keep Bishop ahead.

Mitchell’s Josh Lamb hit a fly to leftfield in the bottom of the fourth that threatened to send him and Ryan Fontaine home, which would have put the Mustangs ahead. Quick reflexes and a fast throw by the Hurricanes stopped Fontaine at third to end the inning.

“We need to catch pop-ups. Our pitching did all we could ask it to do. We need to play better defense.” — Bishop coach Jeff Swymer
