Former Robinson High quarterback Zain Gilmore Jr., the offensive catalyst behind the Knights’ 2012 state playoff run, was arrested in Kentucky on first-degree charges of burglary and robbery.
Gilmore, who redshirted as a freshman last season at Eastern Kentucky University, was arrested by campus police and booked into the Madison County Detention Center just before midnight Monday. He remained in jail Wednesday afternoon, according to the detention center website.
A finance major, Gilmore, 19, was arrested in connection with an armed robbery in a campus dormitory Sunday, according to an EKU advisory.
EKU football spokesman Mike Clark told the Tampa Bay Times that Gilmore has been dismissed from the football team.
As a Knights senior, Gilmore, who transferred from Blake prior to his senior year, totaled more than 2,300 yards in 2012, leading Robinson (11-2) to the Class 5A state semifinals. He totaled 730 in three playoff games alone, earning 5A honorable-mention all-state honors.
His dad, also a Robinson alumnus, was named Florida’s Mr. Football in 1997.
