Countryside’s boys earned the runnerup spot in the Class 4A, District 8 tournament after defeating Palm Harbor University 5-2 in a playoff Thursday. The teams were tied 16-16 after the district tournament Wednesday in Bradenton. (Sarasota Riverview took first.)
Jordan Monosky, Aaron Carey and Martynas Lukosiunas won Nos. 1-3 singles. Monosky and Lukosiunas won at No. 1 doubles, and Carey and Chandler Walker won No. 2 doubles to clinch the match.
Countryside will play at Plant on Tuesday in the region semifinals.
“We just played against (Sarasota) Riverview,” Countryside coach Scott Hernon said. “And they were very good, and from what I hear, Plant is even better. But we’ll show up and give it our best shot.”
