TAMPA — Academy of the Holy Names rallied and Jesuit rolled at the Class 2A, District 10 meet at Berkeley Prep on Thursday.
Berkeley’s girls led after the field events. But the meet turned in the 3,200 meters. AHN’s Clare Snyder, a Georgia commit, won in 12 minutes, 2.21 seconds. More important, teammates Colleen Doherty, Jaime Jurado and Alexandra Reichert took second, third and fifth, respectively. That helped Berkeley’s 22.5-point lead dwindle to 1.5 heading into the final event, the 4x400.
For the first three exchanges, the girls were within steps of each other. But Gillian Anthony, the runnerup in the 400, brought home the victory for the Jaguars, who edged the Bucs 211.5-211.
“We knew we would have to at least beat Berkeley,” said Becca Patterson, who ran a leg in the relay for AHN. “We knew it was going to be really close.”
Jesuit earned 246 points, 100 more than Tampa Catholic. Berkeley was third with 117.
Throwers Jack Taylor and Vincent Jackson led Jesuit. Taylor won the shot put at 50-5 and the discus at 159-4. The discus throw shattered his personal best by 11 feet and was the 13th best in the state this year.
“I was watching video of a college thrower, and I noticed him … holding his upper body higher,” Taylor said. “The coaches have been saying it all year, but I finally put it together seeing it in that video.”
Jackson took second in both, going 48-10 in the shot and 132-5 in the discus.
Throwers shined overall. Tampa Catholic freshman Alise Davis smashed the meet shot put record at 39-6. She took second in the discus at 103-5 behind Berkeley’s Addi Harden. Her 126-9 was a meet record.
A-9: Host Calvary Christian, thanks to its depth, won the girls title, beating last year’s champion, Indian Rocks Christian, 181-147.

The Golden Eagles were led by Bobbi LaBrant, who won the pole vault (10-0), 800 (2:30.02) and anchored the winning 4x400 (4:18.62). Cambridge’s Madison Cox won the 200 (26.59) and 400 (1:00.25) and took second in the 100 (13.13).
