Brooks DeBartolo first baseman Brenden Rivera has signed a letter of intent to play at High Point (N.C.) University.
Rivera, who also was a pitcher, was one of Hillsborough County’s top players last spring.
As a junior, Rivera had a .438 batting average, 32 RBIs, nine stolen bases, seven doubles, a triple and a home run. He also compiled a 4-1 record and 3.30 ERA in 29.2 innings.
High Point University has a Division-I baseball program at a private school of 4,500 students Carolina. The Panthers compete in the Big South Conference.
