Youngest Ivie growing up

When former Pasco star Joey Ivie began his explosion into a Division I recruit two years ago, the current University of Florida defensive lineman predicted his little brother wouldn’t be too far behind.

Ivie was right — and his younger brother isn’t so little any longer.

Pasco lineman Andrew Ivie topped his brother’s mark at Friday’s Class A state weightlifting finals in Kissimmee. Andrew bench pressed 390 pounds and added 315 in the clean and jerk for 705 pounds and a fifth-place finish. That’s 10 pounds better than Joey did as a junior, when he became a four-star recruit and one of Rivals’ top 200 players in the country.

Andrew, one of the North Suncoast’s top 2015 prospects, was listed at 6-foot-3, 260 pounds last fall but weighed in at 271 Friday — nine pounds heavier than his brother did at the same age.

Andrew had 62 tackles and two sacks last fall and already holds offers from the Gators, USF, UCF, Rutgers and Wisconsin, among others. He could gain plenty of attention as colleges trek to Dade City during spring practice.
