Each week, our HomeTeam staffers will nominate male and female Hot Shot athletes from each of the counties we cover, then we turn the voting over to our readers. These nominations span Saturday, Oct. 10 through Friday, Nov. 16. The winners get a free T-shirt and bragging rights over every other school in the area. Read up on what made our nominees stand out, then vote until noon Monday.

Male nominees
Robert Davis, Carrollwood Day football:
The senior surpassed the 11-year-old Hillsborough County career rushing mark of Riverview’s Avious Steadman (5,320 yards). Davis’ 232-yard performance Friday helped CDS win its first playoff game, 24-12 over Moore Haven.

Joey Ivie, Pasco football: The four-star senior and UF commit dominated on the defensive line. He totaled 4.5 sacks and forced a fumble to help the Pirates blow past Citra North Marion with a 34-10 win in the Class 5A region quarterfinals.

Travis Nichols, Land O’Lakes cross country: The standout junior placed third at the Class 3A, Region 2 meet (16:09.32) to help the Gators advance to state for the fifth year in a row.

Artavis Scott, East Lake football: The junior had 10 receptions for 163 yards, including a 38-yard catch for a score, to help the Eagles advance to the Class 8A region semifinals for the second straight year with a 31-20 victory over Treasure Coast.

Rasmus Skjaerpe, Tampa Prep swimming: The junior won a Class A state title last weekend in the 200 free (1:38.20), was second in the 100 fly (49.08) and swam on the medal-winning 400 relay team.

Jack Stein, Shorecrest diving: After breaking his right foot and ankle in 11 places last year, Stein came back to cap his high school career with a second-place finish at the Class A state meet.

Female nominees
Sidney Brown, Berkeley Prep volleyball:
The junior outside hitter had 17 kills and nine digs in a 3-0 victory over Jacksonville Episcopal in the Class 4A state semifinals. Brown had one fewer kill than Episcopal’s team in leading the Bucs to their fourth straight title game appearance.

Shea Hamilton, Clearwater Central Catholic volleyball: The sophomore outside hitter led the Marauders with 19 kills in the Class 3A region final win over Evangelical Christian. She had a team-high 16 kills in Friday’s five-game state semifinal loss to Gainesville St. Francis.

Saphara Harrell, Clearwater Central Catholic cross country: The senior placed a team-high sixth (19:02) at last week’s region meet to qualify for state. She was the second-highest place winner in the county and helped the Marauders finish ninth overall.

Brianna Jackson, Newsome cross country: The senior, 51st in the Class 4A, Region 2 meet in 2011, won it last weekend (19:46). This season has been a complete resurgence after she broke out as a freshman then sort of fell off the area running scene for a bit.

Kayla Kivinski, Gulf basketball: The junior wing exploded for 37 of her team’s 46 points in a season-opening win over Mitchell. She added 10 rebounds, five steals and three blocks while making 17 of 20 free throws.

Nikita Shah, Wiregrass Ranch cross country: The Harvard-bound senior won her first region title, finishing in 18:32 to take the Class 3A, Region 2 championship. She helped the Bulls win the team crown and earn a trip to state.
