ST. PETERSBURG — The rain poured all game and so did the big plays from Indian Rocks Christian. All five of the Golden Eagles’ touchdowns came on plays of at least 40 yards as they routed the host Mustangs.

Key drive: After intercepting the Mustangs late in the second quarter, the Golden Eagles put together a drive that ended with Theo Anderson’s 55-yard run for a score with eight seconds remaining in the first half, putting IRC up by 20.

Play of the game: The longest touchdown in a game of big runs: Jaquan Fuller’s 75-yard kickoff return to open the second half.

Stars of the game: IRC’s Fuller had two touchdowns, on the kickoff return and a 40-yard run. Teammate Anderson ran 10 times for 76 yards and a score. Golden Eagle Zeke McGaughy had 103 yards and a touchdown on eight carries. The Mustangs’ Josh Snead ran for 104 yards on 17 carries.

Stat of the game: No surprise on a wet night like this: Both teams combined for 11 fumbles. Also to be expected but still noteworthy: Indian Rocks Christian attempted just one pass, and it connected for a touchdown.

Final word:“In a game like this one, it comes down to who controls the line of scrimmage.” — Golden Eagles coach Mark Buchanan
