EAST LAKE — East Lake used an efficient offense and stifling defense to knock off Clearwater in a game that featured a steady rain and the Eagles playing without star George Campbell. East Lake jumped out to a 17-0 halftime lead and cruised. Any chance of a Tornadoes rally ended when quarterback Garrisin Bryant left the game just before the half with a collarbone injury.
Key drive: The Eagles (4-0) opened the second half with a 60-yard drive ending with Jake Hudson hitting Kyle Fearrington on a slant from 8-yards out to go up 24-0.
Play of the game: On the next drive, East Lake recovered a Clearwater (1-3) fumble on the first play from scrimmage. Explosive sophomore Xavier Jackson bolted to the 1-yard line. Drew Cuoto took the ball in from a yard out to increase the Eagles lead to 31-0.
Stars of the game: Cuoto scored three rushing touchdowns for the Eagles. Jackson finished with 73 yards on just 9 carries. Blake Duckworth chipped in with and interception for East Lake. Eagles K Daniel Lacamera sailed the opening kickoff through the uprights, and recorded a touchback on each kick. The senior was also perfect on extra points and hit a 38-yard field goal.
