SEMINOLE — George Palmer had a plan. Rotating a quartet of running backs behind QB Ryan Allan during a soggy first half, the Osceola coach decided to feature a fresh Wilan Harvey in the final 24 minutes and the senior came through. Harvey had 18 second-half carries for 126 yards, setting up the winning touchdown and adding an insurance score of his own.
Key drive: To open the second half, Harvey played Boca Ciega’s aggressive defense against itself, cutting back left to right for a 66-yard jaunt that set up Allan’s winning 1-yard dive.
Play of the game: Choosing not to punt after draining all of Bogie’s timeouts, Osceola gave up possession at its 40 with 3:18 left in the game. Substitute QB Derrick Cook hit on three passes to get the Pirates to the Warrior 6 but junior Nick Shytle pulled off a stellar interception in the end zone to secure the win.
Stars of the game: The 200 or so fans that stuck out over two hours of rain to watch two sub-.500 teams slug it out.
Stat of the game: Osceola had nine fumbles but lost just two, equaling Bogie’s turnover count.
Final word: “I know (Boca Ciega) wanted to play fast. They want to overpursue and I used the terrain to my advantage, always go north, never east and west.” — Harvey on his successful second half.
