HomeTeam Hot Shots
A spotlight on the Times’ bay area players of the week.
Male Hot Shot: Kishaun Dampier, Anclote
Sport: Football
Skinny: The Sharks entered the week with no wins — and left with two, thanks in part to the 5-foot-8 senior running back. Dampier finished with 39 yards on five touches and eight tackles in Anclote’s 41-7 win over Ridgewood, which finished last Monday because of rain. On Friday, he caught three passes for 109 yards and two scores while adding 22 rushing yards, five tackles and one pass breakup to help the Sharks upset Zephyrhills, 21-7. “The team was getting down,” Dampier said. “I had to keep them on my back and keep them focused in the game.” Added coach Matt Wicks: “If he gets in the open field, you can’t catch him.”
Female Hot Shot: Marina LeVine, Largo
Sport: Cross country
Skinny: The senior was dominant in last week’s Eagle Lake Park Invitational, winning in a personal-best 19 minutes, 52 seconds — a time that was five seconds off the school record. LeVine’s performance was not a surprise considering she was running on her home course and was the girls defending champion. “I think this race brings out the best in me. I set a personal record in last year’s race, too. Now I’m just trying to focus on lowering my time, and I hope to run in the 19:30s by the end of the season.”
