A spotlight on the Times’ bay area players of the week
Male Hot Shot: Spencer Guerette, Anclote
Sport: Cross country
Skinny: Guerette was the Sharks’ second fiddle last year, behind standout Argishti Gazari, a top-20 cross country runner and state champion in the 3,200 meters at track. With Gazari running at USF, Guerette assumed the top spot at Anclote and ran with it. The senior placed fourth at the Sunshine Athletic Conference meet last month and had the North Suncoast’s top male performance at the Class 2A state meet. He finished eighth at state with a time of 16:18.56. That’s 11 spots better and 40 seconds faster than his mentor’s showing last fall. Guerette also stars at track and had top-eight finishes at last year’s 2A meet in the 800 (1:58.03) and 1,600 (4:28.97).
Female Hot Shot: Megan Ingram, Palm Harbor University
Sport: Basketball
Skinny: The sophomore forward is expected to fill the scoring void left by Kristine Fuller, who now plays for Brigham Young. So far, Ingram looks like she will fill in just fine. In the Beef 'O’ Brady’s Shootout at River Ridge last week, Ingram scored 18 points and snagged 10 rebounds. She was named co-MVP along with her sister, Kaylin.
