With the season winding down, we decided to take a look at the former county standouts now playing in college and put together first teams of offensive and defensive players. This defense is tough and could rank right there with any in the country.
First-team offense
QB – Sean Shelton, William Jewell/PHU: Threw for 2,131 yards and 18 touchdowns this season.
RB – Brynn Harvey, UCF/Largo: Battled back from injuries to rush for 245 yards and three touchdowns this season.
OL – Jon Halapio, Florida/SP Catholic: Started on a physical offensive line that paved the way for solid Gators rushing attack.
OL – Elvis Fisher, Missouri/SP Catholic: Returned from a knee injury to start the second half of the year.
OL – Zach DeBell, Georgia/Tarpon Springs: Did not start but appeared in five games for the Bulldogs.
OL – Clay Paino, Brown/Tarpon Springs: Started at right tackle for the Bears, who had a winning season.
OL – Admir Mujakovic, Minot State/Northeast: A transfer from Merced Community College, Mujakovic started at left tackle.
TE – Paul Freedman. Virginia/CC Catholic: Started 10 games and had six receptions for 48 yards and a touchdown.
WR – Bernard Reedy Jr., Toledo/Lakewood: The 2009 county offensive player of the year was a first-team all-MAC selection and had 82 catches for 1,052 yards and six touchdowns. He also returned three kicks for scores.
WR – Jarvis West, Iowa State/Gibbs: Had 29 catches for 278 yards and three touchdowns.
WR – Ja-Vonta Trotter, Murray State/Boca Ciega: Finished among team leaders with 42 catches for 333 yards and seven touchdowns.
K – Devon Papandrew, Georgetown/St. Petersburg: Kickoff specialist could most of the kicking chores next season.
Special teams – Kostas Vavlas, Georgia/Tarpon Springs: Specialist on returns had nine tackles and a caused fumble for Bulldogs.
First-team defense
DL – Javonta Boyd, Kansas State/Northeast: Played in all 12 games and had 21 tackles and two sacks for the Wildcats.
DL – Dante Fowler Jr., Florida/Lakewood: Came on second half of the season and finished with 27 tackles and 2.5 sacks.
DL – Tim Jackson North Carolina/Gibbs: Speed rusher had 18 tackles and a sack for the Tar Heels.
LB – Jeremiah George, Iowa State/Clearwater: The 2009 county defensive player of the year started eight games and finished with 83 tackles.
LB – Mike Marry, Mississippi/Largo: The 2008 county defensive player of the year had 71 tackles, 1.5 sacks and an interception for the Rebels.
LB – Xavius Boyd, Western Kentucky/Lakewood: Had 71 tackles, an interception and a fumble recovery for Hilltoppers.
LB – Ali Chalib, Youngstown State/Dunedin: Only started one game, but played in most and had 37 tackles this season.
DB – Orhian Johnson, Ohio State/Boca Ciega: Had 39 tackles, two interceptions and blocked a kick for undefeated Buckeyes.
DB – JaQuez Jenkins, USF/Lakewood: The 2008 county offensive player of the year was among leaders in Bulls secondary with 53 tackles and a fumble recovery..
DB – Darrian Skinner, Murray State/Boca Ciega: The Hofstra transfer finished with 51 tackles and a fumble recovery.
DB – Jamarius Boatwright, Youngstown State/Largo: Had 10 tackles and an interception for the Penguins.
P – Pete Kontodiakos, Colorado State/Countryside: Averaged 46.5 yards per kick and had 19 inside the 20.
