Cambridge Christian senior pitcher and shortstop Nick Eicholtz has signed to play baseball at Alabama.
Eicholtz, ranked among Florida's top 40 prospects by Perfect Game USA, is one of two members of the Crimson Tide's latest recruiting class.
"He will be ready to pitch at this level right away," said Dax Norris, assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for Alabama. "Defensively as a shortstop, Nick has a long body, has good range and great actions, and he's very athletic. He's the kind of athlete that you could play anywhere on the field."
Eicholtz, who transferred from Berkeley Prep prior to his junior year, went 6-2 with a 0.34 ERA and held opponents to a .111 batting average with 67 strikeouts in 39 innings in 2012. He also hit .333 with four home runs and 35 RBIs.
Lancers coach Sam Marsonek also announced the signing of outfielder Zach Hessinger with the State College of Florida.
Hessinger hit .571 with two home runs and 23 RBIs and, as a pitcher, had an ERA of 1.85 with 26 strikeouts in 34 innings.
Eicholtz and Hessinger led the Lancers to a 22-6 record and the region finals last spring.
