Hillsborough Super 7

1. Berkeley Prep (11-11): The Bucs maintain their spot at the top heading into the Class 4A, Distrit 9 tournament, where they’ll be the No. 1 seed. They’ll close the regular season Friday with a non-district rematch against rival Tampa Prep, which they beat last month.

2. Wharton (23-1): The Wildcats suffered their first loss in the finals of the Anclote Tournament from the Deep. Predictably, the defeat came against an out-of-area team: Lakeland Jenkins. They’ll be the top seed in next week’s 8A-7 tournament.

3. Riverview (16-5): The Sharks extended their win streak to seven matches, including a pair of 3-1 wins over Brandon and Newsome. They haven’t been tested much in going undefeated in 7A-8 but do have non-league wins against Strawberry Crest, Freedom and Newsome twice.

4. Durant (12-3): The Cougars are much improved since the start of the year and have won 10 of their past 11, including 3-0 over rival Plant City on Tuesday. They could pose a legitimate threat to Wharton in the district tournament.

5. Steinbrenner (14-8): The Warriors lost a five-set match at Bloomingdale on Tuesday night and faced another grueling match against No. 4 Durant on Wednesday night. At the least, they’ll be battle-tested going into the district tournament.

6. Tampa Prep (9-12): The Terrapins get another shot at top-ranked Berkeley Prep on Friday, a final test before defending their 3A-8 title next week.

7. Academy of the Holy Names (12-11): The Jaguars enter the final poll on the strength of a five-set victory last week over Tampa Catholic. They’ll be the No. 2 seed in next week’s 4A-9 tournament behind Berkeley. An argument could be made for Bloomingdale and even Plant in this spot. But hey, we have to draw the line somewhere.
