Each week, our HomeTeam staffers will nominate male and female Hot Shot athletes from each of the counties we cover, then we turn the voting over to our readers. These nominations span Saturday, Dec. 1 through Friday, Dec. 7. The winners get a free T-shirt and bragging rights over every other school in the area. Read up on what made our nominees stand out, then vote until noon Monday.
Female nominees
Madison Del Duca, East Lake soccer: The senior forward scored two goals against Countryside in a 4-0 win Friday night. She also had two goals earlier in the week in a win over Tarpon Springs. She now has 18 goals in 15 games.
Amanda Melosky, Wiregrass Ranch basketball: The sophomore forward exploded for 25 points against Chamberlain and added 13 in a win over Hudson. She’s averaging 16 points per game for the 7-2 Bulls.
Sydney Morrow, Tampa Prep basketball: Morrow, an eighth grader, scored 20 points in the Terrapins’ 46-18 victory over Bishop McLaughlin. Through five games, she’s averaging nearly 15 points and three steals per game.
Ebone Plummer, Hernando basketball: The senior forward/center continues to be a bright spot on a rebuilding Leopards team. She tallied double doubles in both games this week, averaging 15 points and 17 rebounds.
Cassidy Reich, Osceola soccer: In three games this week, the sophomore scored a combined six goals, including three in an 8-0 win over Boca Ciega. The Warriors are now 9-0 and have outscored opponents 52-2.
Faith Woodard, Freedom basketball: The 6-foot-2 senior transfer from Riverview surpassed 1,500 points for her career in a 76-45 win over Hillsborough on Monday. Woodard, a Georgetown signee, finished with 28 points and 11 rebounds in the victory.
Male nominees
Michael Clark, Boca Ciega basketball: The junior scored a combined 66 points in wins over Dunedin, Pinellas Park and St. Petersburg this past week. Included in those totals were two 25-point games against the Falcons and Patriots.
Cody Hodgens, Robinson football: The senior had three catches for 78 yards, field goals of 27 and 28 yards, three touchbacks and a 43-yard average on four punts in the Knight’s 24-20 state semifinal loss to Tallahassee Godby.
Darnell Lovett, Countryside basketball: The Plant transfer, who is the younger brother Florida freshman sensation Michael Frazier, scored 28 points, including 15-of-18 on free throws, in a win over rival Clearwater. The Cougars are now 5-0.
Jack Schlandt, Newsome soccer: The senior scored two goals, both off Wes Gussman corner kicks, in 3-0 win over Wharton.
Erik Thomas, Wesley Chapel basketball: The senior forward continued one of the best careers in school history. He averaged 27 points and 17 rebounds in wins over Land O’Lakes and Pasco for the 5-2 Wildcats.
Mark Wilson, Hernando basketball: The sophomore guard exploded for 32 of his team’s 77 points in a season-opening win over Tavares. He added 12 points against Dunnellon on Friday night to help the Leopards to a 3-0 start.
