Seffner Christian's Greg Fawbush, the only girls basketball coach in the program's 18-year history, earned career victory No. 300 with Thursday's 62-57 home victory against Calvary Christian.

The milestone didn't come easy. The Crusaders (11-0) trailed by as many as 15 in the first half.

"These girls, they just have no quit in 'em," said Fawbush, 40. "That team was better (than in the past). I knew they were good, I just don't think our girls realized how good they were. And I think they came in here motivated. They had never beaten us, and they didn't want to be the team I got the 300th win against."

When Fawbush originated the program, SCA went up to only ninth grade and competed in a Christian conference. Since joining the FHSAA in 2004, the Crusaders have reached the playoffs seven times, highlighted by a berth in the Class 1A state tournament in 2011.

As the final seconds elapsed from Thursday's game, his players began chanting "300." Fawbush was presented with a plaque and ball before the team adjourned to its locker room for cake and cupcakes.

"Then they started chanting 400," said Fawbush, whose team hosts Carrollwood Day tonight. "I said, 'That's four or five years down the road. I don't know if I can make it that far.'"
