SEMINOLE — Smothering defense helped key Seminole’s 61-31 win over Countryside on Friday.
The Warhawks streaked to a double-digit lead to start while the Cougars struggled to score. Seminole led 25-16 at the half, fueled by Matt Cassity’s nine points, six of which came on 3-pointers.
Seminole (7-1) caught fire again to open the third period and break open the game with 13 unanswered points, most of which came from the foul line. Through the period, the Warhawks applied relentless pressure on Countryside (6-2), converting turnovers into points.
“Our defense has been good all year,” Seminole coach Joshua Walker said. “If we can keep it up, it drives our offense.”
The Warhawks had 15 points from the line in the second half. In the fourth period, TJ Frounfelter made three consecutive 3-pointers and finished with 11 points. Cassity led all scorers with 12.
Countryside was coming off a 77-43 win over Dunedin on Thursday night but Friday, the Cougars struggled to find the basket and no players reached double digits.
