Clearwater Central Catholic safety Michael Stevenson ended his recruiting saga by committing to Wake Forest, Marauders coach John Davis said Wednesday.

“It is a good fit for the school and for Mike,” Davis said. “Wake Forest is getting a good one because Mike can play.”

Listed as a three-star recruit by 247sports.com, Stevenson finished his senior season with 91 tackles and three interceptions. He also led CCC to a school-record 11 wins and a berth in the Class 3A state semifinals, where the Marauders lost to eventual state champion University School from Fort Lauderdale.

Stevenson was one of the biggest recruits who had not committed. He had offers from 11 schools, including UCF, USF, Pittsburgh and West Virginia.

The Demon Deacons were one of the first schools to show interest and offered in May. Stevenson kept Wake Forest at the top of his list but started showing interest in the Bulls after they visited and extended an offer this month.

Stevenson has already qualified with a core 3.1 grade point average and has scored more than 750 on his SAT. Wake Forest wants a higher test score and the coaches are willing to wait, Davis said.
