DURANT — Durant came out victorious Thursday, outmuscling Newsome (3-4, 2-1) 38-28.
Durant's defense allowed 201 total yards in the first half but the offense was nothing but lethal. Durant (7-0, 3-0) took a 31-14 lead into halftime behind three touchdowns and a 43-yard interception return by Colin Kiehlmeier.
After a scoreless third quarter Newsome quarterback Will Worth kept the game close, throwing for scores of 37 and 7 yards. Durant was just too tough late as Jamarlon Hamilton put the nail in the coffin with a 13-yard score. He finished with 160 yards and two touchdowns.
"It's a district win and a huge win for us," said Durant coach Mike Gottman.
