Plant 51, Durant 49. At Plant, senior Alex Mitura’s 3-pointer with 7.5 seconds to play lifted the Panthers (8-10, 4-4) in this Class 8A, District 7 matchup. The Cougars failed to get a shot off on their final possession.
Wiregrass Ranch 67, Freedom 46. At Wiregrass Ranch, the hosts (13-4, 4-3) got 23 points from senior guard Chris Parra, who sank seven 3-pointers in a critical Class 7A, District 9 clash.
Jesuit 86, Spoto 28. At Jesuit, Tigers senior Joey Galvis’ career-high 28 points and nine steals paced the hosts (16-1, 7-0) in this Class 5A, District 11 mismatch. Forward Isaiah Omoregie added 15 and point guard Devin Harris scored 13.
Girls basketball
Holy Names 47, Tampa Catholic 40. At Tampa Catholic, the Jaguars (11-7, 4-0) got a balanced scoring effort to take command of the Class 4A, District 9 race. Senior Brianna Wharton scored 10; Victoria Martinez and Christina Snyder each scored eight.
Plant 61, Durant 27. At Plant, 6-foot senior Reggine Brown (16 points) was among 11 scorers for the Panthers (15-5, 7-1). Madelyn Carey added 10.
Wharton 44, Bloomingdale 39. At Bloomingdale, senior guard Allison Mitchell scored all 20 of her points — including five 3-pointers — in the second half to lead the Wildcats (9-8, 4-3). Wharton trailed 15-8 at halftime before exploding for 36 second-half points in this Class 8A, District 7 contest.
Tampa Prep 40, Bishop McLaughlin 28. At Tampa Prep, the Terrapins (6-4, 6-1) clinched no worse than the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Class 3A, District 8 tournament. Senior guard Caroline Alexander’s 10 led Tampa Prep.
Robinson 56, Lennard 14. At Robinson, seniors Cornika Wright and Deliah Autry combined for 33 points in the Knights’ Class 5A, District 11 rout. Freshman Autumn Carson added 11 for the winners (11-5, 7-0).
Girls soccer
Wharton 8, Tampa Bay Tech 0. At Wharton, Lexie Oeth and Laura Johnson each scored a pair of goals in the Wildcats’ romp.
Steinbrenner 8, Jefferson 0. At Jefferson, Danielle Darius, Alexis Bredeau and Remi Brantley each had a pair of goals in the Warriors’ rout.

C.J. McGill, Wharton. The Wildcats senior point guard scored a game-high 26 in his team’s 64-38 district victory at Bloomingdale.
Allison Mitchell, Wharton. The 5-foot-2 senior scored 14 of her game-high 20 points in the fourth quarter of the Wildcats’ district win at Bloomingdale. The other six came in the third period.
Reggine Brown, Plant. The Panthers’ rangy senior had 20 points and six rebounds in her team’s home rout of Durant.
Joey Galvis, Jesuit. We defy you to find anyone who has had a better week. In three games over a four-night span, Galvis totaled 76 points, including a career-best 28 (and nine steals) in Friday’s 58-point blowout of Spoto.
Andrew Sanders, Plant. The 6-5 junior collected 24 points and 20 rebounds in the Panthers’ two-point victory against Durant.
Reggie Hart, Chamberlain. The prolific senior had 25 points in the Chiefs boys’ 65-54 victory against Steinbrenner.
Milestone of the night
With 16 points in his team’s 73-52 win at Robinson, Lennard junior point guard Caelen Watts eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for his career. Watts, a Maryland native who owns a 3.2 GPA, entered Friday’s game needing 13 to reach the milestone.
