Gulf and Ridgewood remain eligible for the playoffs under sanctions doled out by the Florida High School Athletic Association on Wednesday evening.

Both schools were put on restrictive probation, which often includes “the additional consequence of restriction from participation in championship competition…” the FHSAA wrote in its letter to both schools.

But the athletic directors at Gulf and Ridgewood confirmed that neither has received a postseason ban.

Buccaneers athletic director Travis DeWalt also confirmed that charges are being considered against the fans who started the fight after Friday’s game.

“Our SRO did a fantastic job,” DeWalt said. “I believe he had identified the three persons that had started the fight. He referred charges to the state attorney. He was very diligent in that.”

Assistant state attorney Mike Halkitis said cases referred to his office often take a week or two to process before any potential charges are filed.

Pasco Sheriff’s Office spokesman Doug Tobin said his office has not made any arrests in the case.

School officials declined a Times request under open records laws to see a copy of the game film, citing student privacy concerns.
