Strawberry Crest WR Karel Hamilton, poised to become the program's first college signee following his breakthrough senior year, said Thursday he's making an official visit this weekend to Division I-AA Samford.
Hamilton, a first-team pick on the Times' 2012 All-Hillsborough County team, also has offers from Chattanooga and Coastal Carolina, the former of which he already has visited. He has qualified academically, Chargers coach John Kelly said.
A Brooklyn native, Hamilton (6-foot-1, 180 pounds) had 59 catches for 948 yards and 10 touchdowns as a Chargers senior. He was an honorable mention pick on the Associated Press' Class 6A all-state team.
