The coach who gave Robinson LT Connor Rafferty his first scholarship offer has made him another one -- albeit from a different school.
Rafferty, who committed to USF last summer upon receiving an offer from then-Bulls coach Skip Holtz, has received an offer from Louisiana Tech, Knights offensive line coach Shawn Taylor said Thursday. Holtz was hired as Bulldogs coach in December, roughly a month after being fired at USF.
Rafferty (6-foot-3, 280 pounds) will conclude his whirlwind trek of official visits with a trip to the Bulldogs' campus in Ruston, La., early next week, Taylor said. He's currently visiting Samford and will make a trip to Buffalo this weekend.
The status of Rafferty's USF offer upon Willie Taggart's hiring as Bulls coach generated controversy recently, but USF officials have said all recruits who committed to Holtz before his dismissal would have their scholarships honored. In the last 10 days, Rafferty has been offered by Buffalo, Samford, Eastern Kentucky and Louisiana Tech.
An honors student who takes dual-enrollment courses at Hillsborough Community College, Rafferty has qualified academically.
