A week before national signing day, Memphis and Boston College appear the favorites to land alltime Hillsborough County rushing leader Robert Davis.
A onetime Cincinnati commitment, Davis received an in-home visit -- and scholarship offer -- earlier this week from new BC coach Steve Addazio and will make his official visit to New England starting Thursday, his dad told the Tampa Bay Times on Wednesday evening.
Davis visited Memphis two weeks ago. "That was awesome," said Davis' father, Derrick Brown.
By contrast, Davis' visit earlier this month to Cincinnati -- to which he committed last August when Butch Jones was still Bearcats coach -- was underwhelming, Brown added. Jones left for Tennessee in December and has been replaced by Tommy Tuberville.
"The visit just went a little sour," Brown said. "It wasn't the same as when we went in the summertime. Coach Jones was there then, and he's just a little different."
USF also is in the mix, though Davis hasn't made an official visit.
"I would say Memphis is probably ahead right now," Brown said. "From my point of view, they're ahead of the game."
