ST. PETERSBURG — Calvary Christian and Indian Rocks Christian, the top seeds in Class 3A-9, advanced to tonight’s district final in convincing fashion. The Warriors had no trouble with No. 4 seed Northside Christian, winning 48-19.

In the second game the Golden Eagles defeated No. 3 seed St. Petersburg Catholic 53-22. The final is at 7 tonight at St. Petersburg Catholic.

Calvary Christian (18-3) scored the first eight points and never looked back. With a 22-5 lead early in the second quarter, the Warriors went on an 18-0 run to end the half. Rachel Mostert scored six during the run and Savannah Plentovich had eight.

Leading 40-5 at halftime, the game had a running clock in the second half. The Warriors were outscored 14-8 in the second half, but by then the outcome was not in doubt.

Calvary was led by Savannah Plentovich, who scored 11. Mostert had 10 and Carley Plentovich had nine. Heather Percival led the Mustangs with 12 points.

Indian Rocks Christian (14-12) started slowly and led 22-10 at halftime. But the Golden Eagles widened the gap in the second half after figuring out the Barons’ defense. Autumn Frost led IRC with 17 points. Rachel Boyette had 17 blocks and eight points.

“The first quarter was kind of like watching paint dry,” IRC coach Phil Farver said. “We just never seem to play well in that gym. But once we figured out how to break the press, then we were able to get into our halfcourt offense and get things going.”

This will be the third time Calvary and IRC have played this season. The Warriors won both games by more than 30 points.
