ST. PETERSBURG – On his official visit to Liberty University, Admiral Farragut runningback/defensive back Todd Macon stopped by the school bookstore on his way out of town. He had to pick up a hat to wear on signing day.
Macon had offers from Ball State, Charleston Southern and Stony Brook, but when he went to the Lynchburg, Va., campus he committed on the spot. Wednesday morning in the AFA library, Macon made it official by signing his national letter of intent with his father, Todd Macon Sr., by his side.
“I had to stop in the bookstore on Sunday and they had so much Liberty stuff,’’ Macon said. “I had to get a hat. I’m going to be 30 minutes away from my mom. And I can practice my faith and get a good education.’’
Macon will go to Liberty in June to begin classes and preseason practices. He said he plans on majoring in pre-med. He was a four-year player on the Blue Jackets varsity and helped lead the team to the Class 2A state final in 2011.
“He came in as a little 5-foot-6 chubby fella,’’ former AFA coach Chris Miller said. “He developed into a truly remarkable young man and football player. He was the heart and soul of our team.’’
