Leto kicker Amoreto Curraj, an honorable mention pick on the Times' All-Hillsborough County team last fall, has signed a "letter of commitment" to play at Division I Marshall, Falcons coach Matt Kitchie announced.

According to Kitchie, Curraj, who booted three field goals last season and has shined on the statewide kicking-combine circuit, will get a scholarship from the Thundering Herd if he wins the starting job this August. If not, he'll be on scholarship by January, Kitchie said.

He would become the Falcons' first Division I scholarship football player since all-purpose star Jeremy Deering, who signed with Rutgers in 2009.

Curraj's field goals this past season included a 47-yarder against Hillsborough. He was named co-kicking champion at the sixth annual Fall Kornblue Kicking Challenge in late December in Fort Lauderdale, setting an event record with a 79-yard kickoff. That event, which attracted kickers from all over Florida, is operated by former University of Michigan and Arena Football League kicker Brandon Kornblue.
