Chamberlain senior P Rachel Dwyer, who owns a 55-11 career record entering this afternoon's Class 7A, District 9 semifinals, will sign today with the University of Virginia, Chiefs coach Bobby Diez announced.
Today marks the beginning of the NCAA's spring signing period for many sports (excluding football).
Dwyer enters today's action with a 13-6 record, 0.86 ERA and 121 strikeouts. The starter in both of the Chiefs' 7A state tournament games last May, she boasts a 1.17 ERA and 390 strikeouts.
She becomes at least the fourth member of the current Chiefs team to sign with a college program, joining catcher Lindsey Hagberg (Harvard), 3B/P Amber Fullwood (FAMU) and OF Zalonzia Canady (South Florida State College).
