Baseball super seven
Records through Thursday
1. Jesuit (22-2): No longer the nation’s top-ranked team, Jesuit will have to settle for being No. 1 in the county following its first losses of the season in the final week of the regular season.
2. King (19-3): Surrendered more than two runs only once during 10-game win streak. Lions should advance to the regionals with little cause for concern.
3. Steinbrenner (20-2): Suffered one of the more inexplicable losses of the season Thursday, an 11-0, five-inning defeat to Jefferson. It’ll be interesting to see how Warriors rebound.
4. Durant (18-5): Closed the regular season with five straight wins, allowing a total of only three runs. If they can survive their district tournament, the Cougars could go far in the postseason.
5. Hillsborough (17-5): Another team entering their district tournament on a long winning streak, the Terriers have won eight in a row. Their offense is one of the county’s most complete.
6. Brandon (17-6): Top seed in District 7A-8, the Eagles have to be eyeing a possible rematch against Hillsborough in the district tournament final.
7. Newsome (16-6): Wolves could get a third shot at 8A-7 No. 2 seed Alonso — the only district foe to sweep them in the regular season — in the semifinals Tuesday.
In the conversation: Jefferson (16-9), Strawberry Crest (16-9), Plant (15-7), Alonso (13-8), Bloomingdale (15-9), Tampa Prep (17-8), Leto (13-10).
