Lakewood forward Tianah Alvarado has committed to the University of Mississippi. Alvarado, who helped lead the Spartans to the Class 5A state final, visited Mississippi last Sunday through Tuesday.

“It feels good to get the decision made," Alvarado said. “I just felt very comfortable there. Coach (Matt Insell) turned around Kentucky and I know he can do it at Mississippi. He told me I would have a chance to play right away. Not start, but play. I can’t wait to get back there."

Alvarado originally signed with Seton Hall. But when coach Anne Donovan left for the WNBA, Alvarado was given a release from her scholarship and was free to look at other schools. Mississippi was the first school she visited since her release.

Alvarado averaged 19.5 points as a senior. She was a four year starter for the Spartans. She scored 39 in the Pinellas vs. Hillsborough senior All-Star game.

Mississippi was 9-20 last season, 2-14 in the Southeastern Conference.
