Hernando DB Troy Grant Hambrick has received his first college offer, from FAMU, he said Friday afternoon in a text message.

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound athlete was one of Hernando County’s top defensive backs as a junior. He intercepted four passes, broke up 14 and averaged 4.5 tackles per game for the 6-5 Leopards. He also recovered a fumble and caught two passes.

Hambrick has also fared well in track this spring, qualifying for the Class 2A, Region 2 meet in the 110 hurdles.

He’s the latest college prospect from the North Suncoast’s first family of football. His dad of the same name starred at Pasco, played collegiately at South Carolina and Savannah State and spent five seasons in the NFL at running back.

Two cousins signed college scholarships this winter: Pasco ATH Janarion Grant (Rutgers) and Hernando LB Darren Hambrick (Nebraska-Kearney).
