Hernando SS and Florida commit Christian Arroyo has been named the District 10 MVP by the Florida Athletic Coaches Association, Leopards coach Tim Sims said Monday.
Arroyo has brought a string of pro scouts to Brooksville. He ranks among Tampa Bay’s top talents with a .515 batting average, 10 home runs and 12 doubles. He’s also batted in 33 runs for the 23-5 Leopards, who host Eustis in Tuesday’s Class 5A region semifinal.
Arroyo is expected to be drafted in the first few rounds next month.
Springstead star Brandon Brosher was the first runnerup for the award, followed by Hernando ace Brandon Lawson.
Brosher, an Oral Roberts signee and another likely draft pick, has batted in 25 runs while hitting .433 for Springstead, which won its first playoff game ever last week. He has a 1.96 ERA on the mound with 80 strikeouts in 50 innings.
Lawson, a USF recruit, has posted a 10-0 record with 115 strikeouts this season. He’s walked only seven batters and allowed only three earned runs all season. At the plate, Lawson has a .342 average. He was the Times’ North Suncoast pitcher of the year last spring.
