One of the North Suncoast’s top athletes is off the recruiting market and joining a Pasco County rush to South Dakota.
Sunlake ATH Eddie Burgos plans to sign with Black Hills State, Seahawks coach Bill Browning said Monday in an email.
Pasco County coaches named Burgos the Sunshine Athletic Conference’s offensive player of the year after a standout senior season. The 5-foot-11, 175-pound speedster rushed for 1,000 yards and scored 20 touchdowns for the 8-2 Seahawks. Burgos also scored four two-point conversions, averaged 14 yards per punt return, intercepted four passes and broke up five others to earn first-team all-North Suncoast honors from the Times.
He also starred at track this spring, winning a district title in the 100 meters (10.92 seconds) and placing sixth in the 200. The Yellowjackets are recruiting Burgos as an athlete.
Burgos will have plenty of company from the North Suncoast in Spearfish, S.D. Anclote’s Terrell Martin and Kyle King, and Pasco’s Jajuan Henry, all signed with the NCAA Division II program.
