At Northside Christian
Score: Northside Christian 17, Sarasota Out-of-Door 13
Spring game-breakers: Northside Christian coach Mike Alstott has said this fall’s running game will be by committee. If Friday night was any indication, he has a pretty good committee. Senior Jhon Williams gained 50 yards on nine carries and scored before cramping up in the fourth quarter. Aidan Anderson chipped in with 66 yards and Fiante Bell had 17. … Mustangs senior tight end/linebacker Max Massengill is a player to watch. He caught two passes, one for 36 yards, and was all over the place on defense. Alstott called him the team leader, which is why he gets to wear No. 40 — Alstott’s number with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. … Northside quarterback Ben Knox, who played sparingly last season, will be the starter in the fall. The rising sophomore threw for 50 yards and a touchdown and also ran for 21. … Out-of-Door scored on its first possession and not again until its last possession. The Thunder’s first touchdown came three plays after an interception. The second came on the last play of the game.
Did you know? Of the 27 players on Northside’s spring roster, 13 are sophomores or younger. … Northside’s defense held the Thunder to 24 yards passing on 11 attempts. … Chase Johnson kicked a 38-yard field goal for Northside. There was no rush on punts or place kicks.
Audible 1:“We have a lot of talent, we really do. We’re young, but we work hard. It’s hard to get a lot done with just 14 days of practice, but the guys are very coachable and I love that about them. We put a lot of blocks on the foundation this spring.” — Alstott
Audible 2:“The score was a big factor for us. We needed a little boost going into the break. It’s good to win, get our guys experience and see that our hard work paid off.” — Massengill
