Former major-league pitcher John Frascatore has been named baseball coach at Canterbury. Frascatore was formerly the head coach at Nature Coast in 2010-11. He will teach middle school English as well as coach baseball.
“We are very excited about having him here," athletic director Dave Smith said. Frascatore takes over for Reed McMillan, who was released during the season.
Frascatore, 43, played for St. Louis (1994-95, '97-98), Arizona (1999) and Toronto (1999-2001) during his major-league career. He also played in Taiwan in 2003. In 274 MLB appearances, Frascatore was 20-17 with a 4.00 ERA. In 1999, he tied a major-league record by winning three games on consecutive days as a reliever.
Canterbury was 11-14 this spring and won the Class 2A-9 district championship and advanced to the region semifinals.
