Only a week after his breakout spring game performance, Tampa Bay Tech rising senior Deon Thompson has landed his first two scholarship offers.
Marshall and Massachusetts made offers to Thompson on Thursday, according to Titans coach Jayson Roberts.
It was only a matter of time for the 5-foot-9, 176-pound Thompson, who rushed for 587 yards and nine touchdowns and caught seven passes for 146 more yards last fall.
He built on his spring recruiting buzz with 125 yards and two touchdowns, including a 66-yard run on the first play from scrimmage, in the Titans’ dominating 26-0 win over Wharton in last week’s jamboree.
After the game, Roberts joked that he hoped Thompson wouldn’t get his first scholarship offer until the end of the fall because “he’s running like he has something to prove.”
No such luck.
But Thompson said after the spring game that he’s “still got something to work for” and set his 2013 goal at 1,500 rushing yards.
He is also being recruited by USF, UCF, Indiana and Kent State, among others.
