At Gibbs
Score: Gibbs 28, Northeast 13
Spring game-breakers: Gibbs quarterback Brevet Killett and receiver Jacquez President had good chemistry in their first game together. President caught five passes for 128 yards and a 33-yard touchdown. He also had a 40-yard interception return for a touchdown. Killett, a Palm Harbor University transfer, completed 8 of 14 passes for 176 yards plus the TD to President. … Gibbs running backs didn’t run wild, but two scored touchdowns. Javon Morgan had an 11-yard run in the first quarter, and Damien Daniels had a 9-yard run in the third. … Northeast’s Donterio Fowler scored on a 75-yard kickoff return to start the game. He also caught four passes for 71 yards, including a 35-yarder that set up the Vikings’ only offensive touchdown in the third quarter. … Northeast’s Ryan Davis completed 12 of 27 passes for 157 yards and an interception.
Did you know? There could be a rivalry brewing between Northeast and Gibbs. Vikings coach Mike Jalazo claims he and first-year coach Rick Kravitz agreed not to exchange game film before the spring game. But Jalazo said Kravitz watched film from several Northeast games from last fall. “I hate that,” Jalazo said. “Just play the game even. I don’t think that’s the way you want to set the tone as a head coach is to lie to the opposite head coach in the spring game to get an advantage.” When told Jalazo was upset, Kravitz just shook his head. “Just say that I have no comment,” he said. … The Gladiators have only three home games on the 2013 schedule.
Audible 1:“You have to get into rhythm on offense and we never did. We dropped so many balls and then we had a ball tipped for a pick-six. It was tough.” — Jalazo
Audible 2:“We’ve worked together a lot in the spring before and after practice to get used to each other. I already knew him from the track team, but it was nice to play so well together in the game.”—President, on Killett
