Mitchell baseball star Cobi Johnson picked up another honor Wednesday, when he was named to the Perfect Game All-American Classic.
The 6-foot-4, 180-pound Florida State commit is the only local among the 50 participants for the Aug. 11 game. The contest will take place at the Padres’ Petco Park and will be nationally televised by the MLB Network.
It’s the second major all-star game Johnson has been selected for – he plans to compete in the Under Armour All-America Game at Wrigley Field on Aug. 24.
Johnson was an all-Suncoast selection as a junior after posting a 1.68 ERA with 103 strikeouts in 71 innings. The right-hander also batted .426 with 34 RBIs and led the Mustangs to the Class 6A region final. He has played catcher, infielder and pitcher for Mitchell and is listed as a pitcher on the all-star game’s roster.
