Largo’s Donavan Hale, a two-sport star, continued his impressive summer on the travel basketball circuit, scoring 18 points to lead the Florida Elite 16-under team to the title at the Battle of the South tournament in Atlanta.
Hale, who was named MVP, made several clutch free throws down the stretch to seal a 54-50 win in the championship game over Upward Stars (S.C.).
The Florida Elite 16-unders were comprised mostly of Pinellas County players. Others who played well in the tournament included East Lake’s George Campbell, Largo’s Jonathan Crawford and Clearwater’s Rasim Avmet.
This is the second tournament Hale has won with Florida Elite this offseason. In May, he led the 17-under team to a title at the Chicago Classic.
In two weeks, Hale will return to football where he will take over as the Packers' starting quarterback this fall.
