Steinbrenner graduate Logan LaPace, the pitching ace for one of the bay area’s top teams this spring, has signed with Eastern Michigan, according to Warriors coach John Crumbley.
As a senior and fourth-year varsity member, LaPace went 7-2 with a 1.67 ERA and 34 strikeouts in little more than 50 innings.
He also pitched the Warriors to their only playoff victory in school history, a 6-1 win over Seminole in the region quarterfinals. LaPace allowed only four hits over seven innings, at one point retiring 11 straight batters in the victory.
Steinbrenner, which went 24-3 and was ranked among the area’s top three teams most of the season, went on to lose in the next round to District 7A-9 runner-up Wiregrass Ranch.
Eastern Michigan has several players from the bay area on its current roster, including Kristian Calibuso (Armwood), Eric Comstock (Middleton), Austin Wilson (Bloomingdale) and Ian Ham (Tampa Catholic).
Last year, the Eagles went 26-28 and failed to qualify for the Mid-American Conference tournament since 2005.
