We're featuring some of our HomeTeam 100 players, including our No. 66 player, Countryside OL Giovanni Negron:
The one constant for Countryside, the one factor that has helped sustain its success in recent years is its production at offensive tackle.
In the past four years, three players who occupied that position for the Cougars — Tyler Moore (Florida), Jeff Albert (Jacksonville) and Brandon Pertile (Georgia State) — have gone on to play in college.
Giovanni Negron is the next.
The 6-foot-4, 265-pound senior starts his second season at left tackle, earning the prestige afforded to the bodyguard for the most important position of all: the quarterback.
Negron also is valuable for his experience. He is Countryside’s only returner on offense that started every game last season.
“Giovanni has everything you’re looking for in an offensive lineman,” coach Jared Davis said. “He has a great demeanor, he’s physical and he likes to finish blocks. Plus, he works hard and is just fun to coach.”
Negron has attracted college attention with a stellar offseason. He has nine offers, including Arizona, Connecticut and Middle Tennessee.
