We're featuring some of our HomeTeam 100 players, including our No. 28 player, Lakewood QB Ryan Davis:

Davis, who played at Northeast for two years before transferring late this summer, had 2,120 passing yards as a sophomore and added 719 yards rushing.

“He’s a stud,” Lakewood coach Cory Moore said. “But he’s a better kid than he is an athlete. He’s jelled in well, and that’s mostly because these guys have been playing with each other since little league.’’

Lakewood is not short on skill position players. There will be at least four legitimate receivers for Davis to throw to, and several more running backs to help out the offense. Davis (6-0, 165) played in a spread style offense at Northeast, and he said Lakewood runs pretty much the same scheme.

“It’s kind of the same system, just different terminology,” Davis said. “We kind of spread it out. Pound the ball when we have to.”

Davis fills a hole that was missing after Tracy Johnson graduated. The Spartans were going to use several players at quarterback. But Davis’ combination of speed and arm strength allows Moore to do more things on offense.

“You’re going to see Joc (Ellison) all over the place now,” Moore said. “Tyrae (Boykins) will too. And we also have the twin towers (Adrian and Andrew Davis) at receiver.
