Former Sickles PG Jordan Davis, who helped lead College of Central Florida to a junior college national title last winter, has signed with the University of Tampa, the school announced in a release Monday.

Davis, who began his collegiate career at Monmouth, will have two years' eligibility remaining.

"I felt very comfortable with the staff," said Davis, who also had received interest from Savannah (Ga.) State and Lamar. "They really understood my game and what I bring to a team. The No. 1 reason was being able to play in front of my mother. I would give up Division I every time just to play in front of her."

Davis averaged 15 points and seven assists as a Gryphons senior, teaming with fellow Division I signee Rashawn Rembert (East Tennessee State) to help lead Coach Renaldo Garcia's club to the 2010 Class 5A state final.

He left Monmouth after one season following an academic-related suspension and change in coaches. Last winter, he averaged 6.3 points and 7.6 assists for CCF, ranking 20th nationally among juco players in the latter category.

"We are very excited to add Jordan and think that he will add another dimension to our team," UT coach Richard Schmidt said in the university release.

"With 10 letterwinners returning, we feel that Jordan can really help us become a better team and improve on our 17-win season from a year ago.”
