HomeTeam 100: Spotlight on Alonso's Ish Witter

We're featuring some of our HomeTeam 100 players, including our No. 29 player, Alonso RB Ish Witter:

Witter’s ankle didn’t let him complete his best high school season last year.

Instead, sprained and pained, it kept him from playing a must-win game against Wharton — the Ravens lost, keeping them from the playoffs — then hindered him in a loss to arch-rival Sickles the following week to close out the season.

“It was frustrating,’’ said the 5-foot-9, 190-pound senior. “It definitely came at a bad moment.”

And it was fuel for Witter this offseason, as he heads into his final year. Now healed, Witter is one of the biggest reasons the Ravens will once again contend for a playoff spot, if not be favored for one.

Recruited by Syracuse, Rutgers, Missouri and a handful of others, Witter (5-9, 190) is coveted for his 4.5 speed and powerful running. It helped him to 902 rushing yards and six scores last season. This year, he will run behind a better, more experienced line, and if he avoids injury should post his first 1,000-yard season.

Witter is quick to praise his guys in the trenches.

His blockers include highly recruited tackle Gary Brown, and Christian Loubriel, Don Shepherd, Brandon Shorter and Cesar Perez are all seniors.

“All excellent,’’ Witter adds.

Just like the guy running behind them.
